Bellingham City Club Program February 26th
Thousands of our neighbors in Whatcom County find themselves worrying, on a daily or weekly basis, whether they will have enough food, whether they will be able to feed their children, or whether they will have enough money to pay for rent, heat, and medication as well as food. In a country of food surpluses, we still have people who go hungry every single day, and our county is no exception.
Our February 26th panel will provide an overview of hunger in Whatcom County as well as the effects of living with chronic hunger for children, older adults and families. We'll learn about current resources for alleviating hunger and explore the difficult question of how we can move to a longer-term solution.
Our three panelists bring a significant amount of experience and expertise in dealing with local hunger issues: Mike Cohen, Executive Director of the Bellingham Food Bank; Steve Clarke, Bellingham Public Schools Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning; and Shelly Zylstra, Planning Director for Northwest Regional Council, Area Agency on Aging.
