5 Guys Named Moe
Irving Street Repertory in association with Artbeat and BRAVO performing Arts Series presents the hit Broadway musical review, Five Guys Named Moe. The musical highlights all the hits of popular singer and songwriter Louis Jordan. Dubbed The Father of the Rhythm & Blues, Louis Jordon was a huge recording artist hit in the 30s through the 50s. He and his band, Tympany Five, had their first million copies-seller in 1944 with "Is You Is Or Is You Ain't Ma Baby?, having previously attracted attention with "Knock Me A Kiss" and "I'm Gonna Move To The Outskirts Of Town," the latter of which became a classic Blues standard. As Jordon once said, he "made the blues jump," and in so doing, influenced the likes of B. B. King, Chuck Berry, and Bill Haley.
In celebration of this vibrant musical genius, Five Guys Named Moe is more like a swinging party than a show. In their multi-colored zoot suits, the five Moes (Big Moe, Little Moe, Eat Moe, Four-Eyed Moe and No Moe) harmonize, croon, wail, tap-dance and jump-n-jive their way through 27 Louis Jordan hits, such as Saturday Night Fish Fry; Caldonia; Don't Let The Sun Catch You Crying; Choo Choo Choo Boogie and, of course 5 Guys Named Moe. It will be impossible for audiences to resist joining in the raucous Push Ka Pe She Pi Rhumba line, or throwing their hands and shouting "MOP!" when egged on by the comic Moes.
