Classical. Brazilian. R&B. Jazz. Afro-Cuban. Popular Rock and Roll. Ed Johnson's mastery of so many different styles, coupled with a passion for harmony vocal and horn arrangements, all factor into a magical blend of vibrant, original contemporary jazz thatis winning fans and airplay worldwide.

Ed's original music is evocative of Brazilian pop, but unlike anything you've heard before. As a vocalist, he is frequently compared to Ivan Lins, Milton Nascimento, Kenny Rankin, and Michael Franks. As a guitarist and bandleader, critics often cite the lushly exotic, accessible sounds of Airto, Flora Purim,Toninho Horta, and other major Brazilian artists. Ed's fourth and latest solo release The Other Road has garnered critical acclaim from Jazz Times and other jazz journals and webzines. His previous releases, 2004's Movimento and 2002's Over That Wave, also received numerous glowing reviews, and the trio of recordings has enjoyed wide national and international airplay.

On April 4, 2014, Johnson brings his seven-piece band Novo Tempo to the Woodshed at Keith Holland Guitars for a special performance of Ed's own compositions along with creative covers of songs by some of his favorite Brazilan artists. The band members performing with Ed are Jennifer Scott on keyboards and vocals, Kristen Strom on sax, flute, and vocals; John Worley on trumpet and flugelhorn, Scott Sorkin on guitar and vocals; Rene Worst on bass; and Jason Lewis on drums.

With this stellar ensemble of musicians, Novo Tempo's performance promises to deliver a dynamic listening experience for the audience.
