Sustainability & Mobility Department
City of San Diego
BIO: Ms. Alyssa Muto is the Director of the Sustainability & Mobility Department within the City of San Diego. The department is comprised of three pillars of initiatives -- Climate Action, Mobility, and Energy -- all of which are closely connected and have clear linkages for creating a more sustainable and resilient City.
Ms. Muto oversaw the recent completion and successful adoption of an update to the City's Climate Action, where the City has committed to an ambitious citywide goal of net zero by 2035. As it relates to mobility, Ms. Muto has managed significant Citywide policy initiatives, including comprehensive parking reform, micro-mobility Municipal Code amendments and RFP, and an upcoming RFP for zero emissions vehicle charging on City-owned land. Her continued work on expanding sustainable and safe mobility options for all residents reflects the Citys Climate Action Plan targets for reduction of mobile source emissions and implements major policy goals of Mayor Todd Gloria and the City Council.
Ms. Muto has participated in a number of national and international conversations and studies around sustainable mobility, both sharing City of San Diego policy and projects, and working with others to implement new innovative mobility solutions. Ms. Muto received a master's degree in Public Administration with an emphasis in City Planning from San Diego State University and has 20 years of policy and planning experience in the San Diego region in both the public and private sectors.
