Two From SA: Borderlands & The Artist Speaks
The San Antonio film scene boasts many home grown talents working in narrative films, documentaries, music videos, and all mediums in-between. Two recent works speak to the diversity of styles and approaches to local filmmaking.
Feature: Borderlands Hector Bojorquez and Gerald Pettit, USA, 2013, 65 min
Borderlands is the story of Maria Lara, a 74 year old Mexican-American woman and her life as she experiences the daily struggles of keeping her neurotic, dysfunctional family together while being haunted by enigmatic and increasingly disturbing hallucinations.
Documentary: The Artist Speaks Ellen Riojas Clark, Daniel Alejandro González, USA, 2013, 40 min
A documented insight into the history, ideology and process of San Antonio, Texas area Latino artists: Franco Mondini Ruiz, Joe Lopez, and Terry Ybanez. Their stories tell of the artistic journeys, personal growth, and ethnic identity within the multicultural communities in which they live. The exploration of identity as Latino artists from varied social economic, educational, and cultural backgrounds form the thread of the video. This video entitled The Artist Speaks: Exploring Who I Am involves individual interviews as well as artist produced presentations about themselves and their work.
