ASCE COPRI Seattle Dinner/Hybrid Meeting - March 15, 2023
Topic: Port of Everett Norton Terminal Redevelopment (& MTCA Interim Action Clean-up) of the Former Kimberly-Clark Mill Site
This presentation will describe the integrated environmental cleanup and redevelopment that the Port of Everett pursued to revitalize a waterfront brownfield site into productive maritime industrial use within 3 years of acquiring the property. The former Kimberly-Clark pulp and paper mill was closed in 2012, and the Port purchased the Site in 2019 to redevelop as a new 35-acre maritime cargo handling yard to support their adjacent marine terminals, with the terminal pavement doubling as a site wide environmental cap under an amended Agreed Order. The Terminal Grand Opening occurred in December 2022. This presentation will provide an overview of the entire project, while focusing on some unique project design/construction challenges associated with redevelopment on this complex waterfront site.
Presenters will be Nathan Watson & Elise Gronewald, who served as project managers from the consultant and owner sides respectively. Nathan is a principal at KPFF Consulting Engineers, and Elise is a project manager for the Port of Everett. Speakers: Elise Gronewald, P.E., PMP Project Manager - Port of Everett
Nathan Watson, P.E. Principal - KPFF Consulting Engineers
