Honey Tasting
HONEY TASTING Presented by Slow Food Yolo and Z Specialty Food, LLC Sunday March 22, 3:00 5:00 PM 1250-A Harter, Woodland.
Spend the afternoon tasting honey and learning the importance of bees and how they make honey from Ishai Zeldner, local beekeeper and co-owner with Amina Harris of Z Specialty Food in Woodland. Honeybees are the primary insect pollinator of approximately 100 crops nationwide and they are responsible for one-third of everything that humans eat every day! Amina and Ishai are preparing 10 honey varietals for the tasting, which will take your across the United States sample exotic Creamy Lehua from Hawaii, spicy Sweet Clover from the High Plains (selected the BEST Clover honey in America by Food and Wine Magazine in 2008!) and on down to an all-time favorite, Florida Tupelo. Along the way, sample the best of the northwest Fireweed and BlackBerry and then wind down the flight with some local favorites. The next step will be to taste wildflower comb honey paired alongside three California cheeses: Redwood Hill's crottin, an earthy goat cheese fashioned after the French Crottin de Chavignol, Winchester Cumin Gouda, a raw, cumin spiced gouda made in Southern California, and Point Reyes Original Blue, a farmstead, salty blue. Compare notes with other tasters and leave with a new enthusiasm for honey and the hard-working pollinators that make it possible! Product will be available for sale at the event. Proceeds wills benefit the Honeybee Research Fund at UC Davis, whose mission is to conduct research and educate the public in the areas of honeybee biology and health.
