The Weaver's Wedding
Chincha-chancha Cooroo or The Weaver's Wedding is based on a Bengali folk tale revolving around Rajah, a weaver, who is also, quite frankly, a bit of a fool. Rajah tries to get his work done, but instead ends up making a mess of everything. Rajah's friend, the clever Jackal, is determined to straighten out the weaver's life by finding him a wife - the King's daughter, no less. With the help of a crowd of noisy animals and birds, the Jackal sets Rajah on the road to riches and success -- but in the end, it's the Princess, not the Jackal, who really changes his life.
The Weaver's Wedding was translated and adapted by renowned British poet William Radice with music composed by Bernard Hughes. David Bass, founder of NCFO, directs the all-volunteer, multigenerational cast, of over 100 soloists and chorus members, amateur and professional, drawn from many Greater Boston communities. Assisting in this production are award-winning choreographer Deborah Mason, acclaimed set designer Peter Watson, lighting designer and technical director Dale Senechal, and dramatic directors, Kathy Lindsay, David Sandberg and Phil Budne.
The Weaver's Wedding will be performed the weekends of March 28/29 and April 4/5 with Saturday shows at 3PM and 7PM, and Sunday shows at 2PM and 6PM. Tickets are $5 for children and $10 for adults.
