Join us on February 13 for open bar, a celebration of our new February/March season, and a "State of Indie Cinema" conversation with our new program director, Courtney Sheehan, local filmmaker Megan Griffiths and James Keblas, Director of the Office of Film + Music for the City of Seattle.
The national film biz has been abuzz of late with discussion and debate about the current state (and projected future) of the industry. A week before Sundance began, Manohla Dargis of The New York Times issued "an appeal for sanity" -- a call to distributors to put the kibosh on what she sees as an excess of film acquisitions. Not surprisingly, Dargis' assertion that American independent cinema revolves around "consumption rather than curation" stirred impassioned responses from film professionals and writers across the country.
Dargis also invited 70 notable film folks to give their two cents in a survey on the state of the independent film. During the Film Forum member party, come weigh in on Dargis's questions and consider what's unique about Seattle's film industry and community. Bar opens at 6:30; conversation at 7pm.
All current Film Forum members are welcome to attend
