Jill Lorean & Raveloe at The Montrose Playhouse
The Montrose Playhouse and Mo' Fidelity Records are proud to present a musical double-bill featuring Jill Lorean and Raveloe playing solo sets on Thursday 30th March.
Jill Lorean is a unique and exciting songwriter who inhabits her own world, musing on nature and relationships over a palette of genres from garage and folk-rock to post-punk. Jill will be performing stripped-back interpretations of songs from her debut EP Not Your First, her critically acclaimed album This Rock (which was released last year and appeared on many 'best of 2022' lists) as well as throwing some new, hitherto unreleased songs into the mix.
"Raw heaviosity with a country gothic twang equal parts Sandy Denny, Warren Ellis, and Led Zep" - The Scotsman
"Glorious, unsettling and startling" - God Is In The TV
Raveloe is the project of Glasgow songwriter Kim Grant, she found the moniker within the pages of the book Silas Marner, which is about a reclusive weaver who lives in a town called Raveloe. Grant identified with the idea of being a weaver of words and music and the concept of creating a fictional world to tell stories within. Being inspired by magical-realism, folk and indie rock, Raveloe is a fusion of sounds filled with rich images exploring themes of temporality, duality, nature, pain and love. Growing up in the industrial town of Motherwell and now living in Glasgow the juxtaposition of urban life and the natural environment are entwined in the songs as is the magic and the mundane.
"A unique entanglement of 80s jangle-pop and the lighter end of the post-punk spectrum pivots and splays into a wonder of ethereal indie" - Secret Meeting
