La Cueva del Cante
Join us for an evening dedicated to the beautiful art of Flamenco singing. This performance will feature cante "pa'lante," a term meaning the singer is at the front of the stage as opposed to patras where the singer is at the back of the stage accompanying a dancer. Featuring Flamenco singer, guitarist, and producer from the Bay Area David Lopez with Yeshe Wingerd al cante and Brenna McDonald (guitar).
Following the performance we will celebrate with a community juerga! Come ready to sing, dance, and play!

About David Lopez:
David Lopez (Flamenco Jukebox) got his start in Flamenco 25 years ago, studying guitar with one of Sabicas top American students. He moved to California in 2000, started studying cante flamenco, and has been performing Flamenco across Northern California for over 15 years. He has studied all forms of the art (cante, toque, and baile), with artists from Spain and local professionals with a deep history in the community. Some artists of note: Juan del Gastor (Morón de la Frontera), Luis Moneo, José Gálvez, Jesus, José, and Kina Méndez (Jerez de la Frontera), José Valencia (Lebrija), and Mari Peña (Utrera).
Since 2014, David created and manages NorCal Flamenco, a non-profit that serves the local community by promoting artists, shows and classes. In 2022, David launched Flamenco Jukebox as the production side of his flamenco activity, and produces a monthly show in SF that features large groups, with an emphasis on inclusivity and audience participation.
