East Meets West
East Meets West is a fundraiser for the Himat peace-building and poverty alleviation initiative in northern Pakistan as well as in a new site in south Punjab called Khanewal. The evening begins at 5:30 with a sit-down meal and the opportunity to meet others like you who want to support this project that has already achieved such amazing impacts. This time is followed by a concert in the beautiful Cardel Theatre in Calgary that features Orest Subtelney a traditional Indigenous prayer song, Barkat Ali will bring us sufi-style singing accompanied by the rubaab. Kirby Sewell' powerful blues will bring us to the opportunity to learn a bit about what the Himat project has achieved through the past couple of years when the COVID pandemic brought so much suffering to people. After an intermission that will provide time to make your bids for silent auction items, buy a 50/50 ticket or make a donation if your heart so leads you. The concert will begin again with a classical violin performance by the 10-year old sensation Sacha Wu. Aya Mhana will delight your ears and touch your hearts with her songs from her homeland of Syria. The final act of the evening is Magnolia Buckskin, a wonderful indie bluegrass, folk and acoustic pop girl band. Please come!!
