PitchBlak Brass Band w/ PHILO feat. Empire Strikes Brass
PitchBlak Brass Band:
PitchBlak Brass Band is a Brooklyn-based 10-piece band whose style and sound represent hip-hop from the 1980s to present day. A collective of young musicians, composers and artists, PitchBlak embodies the contemporary and vibrant undercurrents of New York City. PitchBlak's members have incredibly diverse musical backgrounds, allowing them to infuse hip-hop driven music with funk, rock, jazz and classical genres, rich brass harmonies, lyrical hooks, tongue-twisting raps, and rhythms that make your blood race. Notable performances include The Kennedy Center, 92Y Tribeca, Brooklyn Bowl, Toronto's NXNE Music Festival, and CMJ. The band has also done support dates with the legendary Manhattan Brass, Kid Daytona, and arranged and played for composer Benh Zeitlin of Beasts of a Southern Wild.

Empire Strikes Brass:
Based in Asheville, North Carolina, the Empire Strikes Brass is a New Orleans 2nd line style brass band that is determined to bring funk, rock, and a lot of energy to your local venue, city streets, and beyond. They have ushered large dancing crowds at Asheville's LAAFF Festival (http://lexfestasheville.com/). ESB also gave Galactic fans a true New Orleans experience by leading them 2nd line style with NOLA funk and flavor to the Orange Peel in Asheville, for a recent Galactic concert. The Empire Strikes Brass is MUCH MORE than a 2nd line street band. They'll amp up your wedding, pub crawl, funeral, or festival with a funk that could only be found in New Orleans, until now.
Empire Strikes Brass was formed in April of 2012---the first and only 2nd line brass band in Asheville. A gumbo of musicians from bands such as the Squirrel Nut Zippers, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, Firecracker Jazz Band, Common Foundation, and Kung Fu Dynamite (just to name a few), the ESB core group consists of saxophonist, Paul Juhl; sousaphone, trumpet, Henry Westmoreland; cornet, Jay Widenhouse; drums, Jay Good; saxophone, vocals, Debrissa McKinney; bass trumpet, Steve Lynch Maass; trombone, Alex Kelly: trombone, tuba, JP Furnas---with special guests appearing often.
Original to the Blue Ridge Mountains, the band owes its style to the colorful culture, funky flair, and music of New Orleans. Bands like the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Galactic, The Funky Meters, and Dr. John have been their influence. When they march through the downtown streets of Asheville, their funky sound spontaneously pulls people into the streets to join the dancing and musical celebration that is the Empire Strikes Brass.
