CHIMNEY CHOIR
Chimney Choir's latest album, (compass), is music played on banjo, fiddle, guitar, and piano and sung in three part harmony.  It is layered with electronic drones, field recordings, and conversational rhythms played on junk percussion.   (compass) was released through a series of monthly thematic performances at Leon Gallery that were inspired by minimalist Fringe theater, where production was suggested or even imaginary.  The shows experimented with sound collage, storytelling, puppetry, dance, and ritual.  The series culminated in a theatrical performance inside of an old Antique Warehouse in Denver's Valverde district, an industrial neighborhood along the South Platte River once known for producing the world's best celery.

"An ambitious artistic mission. More and more, the group's identity has become tightly tied to its willingness to experiment, to push boundaries in their sound and stage presence."
    - Denver's Westword

"A unique homemade collage of sound... the character of their melodic folk sound hinges largely on a skillful balancing of freaky vocal interplay with computer synths, traditional acoustics and kitchen sink percussion. Original, catchy and ripe with a strangely warm and welcoming aesthetic."

SPIRITS OF THE RED CITY
Orchestral folk ensemble Spirits of the Red City describe themselves as a collective of friends and wandering musicians led by Will Garrison.  Dense with musical and cultural influences which span traditional ballads, folk and classical music to avant-garde jazz, the band pulls the best qualities from genres that perhaps don't normally overlap.

Call the music time-weathered folk or strewn remnants of Americana or something else entirely.  Here is what you will hear:  opaque lyrics, at once lonely and longing and hopeful and weary and love-strewn, given breath with exploratory structure and melody, and supported by an ensemble of guitar, string bass, cello, viola, drums and found percussion, banjos, accordions, horn, mandolin, and vocal harmonies.

Spirits' most recent album, Jula, was released last fall on Collectible Records, headed by Denver musician Macon Terry. We are delighted and honored to have Macon's project Clouds and Mountains opening the evening for us.

CLOUDS AND MOUNTAINS
Headed by multi-talented, Macon Terry, and backed by a band with impressive resumés themselves, Clouds and Mountains embodies everything we love about Colorado music: soulful lyrics, beautiful harmonies with foot stomping rhythms. You're sure to fall in love with these folks' music.
