Cellist Kristen Miller
Cellist, Kristen Miller, captures five varied moods of Paris. Her solo record, Parisian Sketches, is scheduled for release on Heart Dance Records on January 27, 2023. This five-track instrumental EP captures five different atmospheres of Paris using soaring cello melodies over multi-layered lush cello and synth flourishes. Kristen has debuted several of her CDs at the Actors Studio playing to very enthusiastic audiences.
She is a Billboard Charting Cellist and Shamanic Sound Healer. Classically trained from an early age, Kristen discovered non-classical improvisation as a means of self-expression. She began writing her own compositions which led to three solo releases, all of which charted on college and community radio across North America. After releasing the duo album Winter Loves Company (2010) with pianist/composer Tom Eaton, Kristen felt compelled to begin writing New Age style music. Her first release on Heart Dance Records, Cello Journeys (2020) enjoyed extensive radio play and charted on the Zone Music Reporter.
In Kristen's own words: "We all share the common experience that the last few years have been extremely challenging. This has been true for me personally, and I know I am not alone in this. About a year ago, my mom passed away, and I truly lost my best friend. In the midst of my grief, though, something amazing happened; out of nowhere, I began writing intensely impressionistic music inspired by the beauty of Paris. I found myself writing a cello piece about a very sweet little non-famous park in Paris called Parc Monceau. Everytime I walk through the gates of Parc Monceau, I am overcome with a mixture of deep peace and giddy joy. Thus began my project, Parisian Sketches.
The first time I saw Monet's Waterlilies, I couldn't speak for a half hour afterward. The energy contained in that piece set off a chain reaction that forever changed me. Half a lifetime later I composed and recorded Orangerie. When you listen to it, I hope it will bring you the same feeling of intense awe and calm that I felt the first time I saw those paintings. We humans are feeling raw and tired in our bones and in our souls due to so many recent harrowing world events, especially the ongoing pandemic and our isolation from one another. I hope you will come and help me birth this hopeful music into the world."
Kristen's husband, Marc Lisle, has created gorgeous videos to go with the music. She will perform the music live and we will all celebrate together. Engineering, sound design, and production by Tom Eaton at Sounds and Substance.
