Three Pre-Raphaelite Tours at the Delaware Art Museum
Forgotten Pre-Raphaelites, A Marriage of Arts & Crafts: Evelyn & William De Morgan, and the British Pre-Raphaelites
The "Forgotten Pre-Raphaelites" exhibit brings together over forty works by overlooked artists affiliated with the Pre-Raphaelite circle, including art by women and the American Pre-Raphaelites. Arts & Crafts pottery maker William De Morgan (1839-1917) and Pre-Raphaelite painter Eveyln De Morgan (1855-1919), a power couple, who encouraged one another's creative pursuits and engaged in the social issues of their day, are the subject of the second tour. The final exhibit focuses on Dante Gabriel Rossetti and six other British artists and writers, including John Everett Millais and William Holman Hunt, who formed the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. They showed a disdain for the established art institutions of the day, in particular the Royal Academy.
