Pop-Up Adventure Play has teamed up with Friends of Vigers and the Community Wildlife Habitat of Lakeville, Massachusetts ("Nature Club") to deliver a public workshop and a Pop-Up Adventure Playground to inspire a community of adults to support child-directed play.
This workshop will be delivered on 15th April and the summary is as follows:
THE AMAZING BENEFITS OF PLAY This workshop addresses play's distinct qualities and benefits, emphasizing those related to whole-child learning, health and development. We share simple and effective ways to make better use of local resources, recognizing the natural play potential everywhere and rebuilding social networks. We carefully distinguish children's self-directed play from adult-led activities and outline ways to facilitate children's play both directly, as well as through outreach and advocacy. By combining extensive experience in playwork and child development, we offer a uniquely engaging and informative approach to the subject - and include time for participants to play! This workshop is intended for a broad audience.
This workshop includes: ~ What we mean when we say 'play' - essential terms and definitions ~ An invitation to play - followed by group reflection ~ Children's need to play, and the landscape of children's lives today ~ Not 'unstructured', but 'self-structured' - what makes children's free play so special? ~ The power of 'yes' - creating environments of challenge and freedom ~ "Play with what you have" - loose parts and their benefits ~ Seedlings in the sidewalk - moving our idea of 'nature' towards a child's perspective
There will be a Pop-Up Adventure Playground on 16th April @ 1pm-5pm. Everyone is invited to attend.
PLEASE NOTE: The workshop will be an adult only event. The Pop-Up Adventure Playground caters for the whole family, but children must be accompanied by an adult.
