MAFFA RICO + ZARAMELA w/ Marykate w/ Al Cheekz, The Art Of Cool
Maffa Rico is the sound of a funky stewing of five years of writing and jamming between three original members, Brad Giroux (guitar/vocals), Patrick Berthiaume (bass/vocals/trumpet) and Eren Tanyeri (drums). This Madison/Milwaukee based group has funk roots that extend to many genres including rock, reggae, hip hop, metal, latin, jam, & jazz and have influenced many songs that have been produced on their self titled EP, Maffa Rico. Recorded in July at Blasthouse Studio in Madison with producer Landon Ackers, the band recorded the EP with new drummer Quinn Wholean. Many of the songs on the self-titled EP include scenes and sounds that capture the spontaneous wonders of life in the city. Spontaneous funk jams and dance music are the cornerstones of this group from Madison that can only truly be experienced in a live setting.
Zaramela is a young 7-piece band hailing from Chicago, IL. The band fuses a tight, versatile rhythm section of drums, bass, and guitar very comfortable with the roots of rock, reggae, soul, and funk, along with a keyboard sound akin to Indie and Jam. Featuring a jazzy, high energy horn section, and a lead vocalist and emcee who can rap, scat, and beat box almost as great as he sings. Zaramela's live show can be described as nothing less than a party, and the musicality incorporated along with that has led to comparisons to groups such as Kids These Days, the Roots, and Earth Wind and Fire, among many others. Zaramela has released a 6 song EP entitled "Work." and an LP named "Gumbo" which was released November 29th, 2013.
