Valentine's Day Snap on 2&4 w/ Annie Sellick
Friday, February 14th at 8pm, marks the return of vocalist Annie Sellick to the NJW Jazz Cave for a special Valentine's Day Snap on 2&4.
Enjoy a romantic evening of jazz from one of Nashville's most loved performers, along with a special Valentine's surprise from the Jazz Workshop!
Annie Sellick is a poster child for hard work and determination. She got her start at formal training right here at the Nashville Jazz Workshop, after finding initial success singing in clubs while in college. She mastered the repertoire of vocal classes at NJW and never looked back, earning herself the "Best Jazz Artist" title four years in a row byNashville Scene readers. She stepped up her music studies, taking guitar at the New School while living and performing in New York City for a time. Annie also coached with Rebecca Paris in Boston and Rhiannon in Hawaii. Soon, she was stretching her wings beyond the Nashville area, traveling to Europe, Japan, Canada and throughout the United States and establishing solid fan bases centered in Atlanta and Birmingham, the major cities along the east coast from Hilton Head to West Palm Beach, Cincinnati, Los Angeles and Montreal.
In fact, The buzz about Annie at Montreal's Upstairs Bar landed her two appearances at the Montreal Jazz Festival, where she played for an audience of 10,000. Vice-president of programming of the festival was quoted in an interview, "Annie is for me, all about passion."
Annie has been to Japan for six tours covering twenty cities. She has also performed in Korea, Peru, Russia, Holland, Poland, Mexico, several times in Germany and all over the U.S.
Four years of concentrated gigs in L.A. lead to her collaborations with jazz musicians there such as Shelly Berg, whose arrangements are featured on her fourth album "A Little Piece of Heaven" Live in Santa Monica with the Gerald Clayton Trio. She has released five albums under her own label and appeared on several others.
Don Heckman of the Los Angeles Times writes, "her most attractive quality might be the manner in which she has transformed her musical influences into her own immediately identifiable style. [She has] her own utterly unique musical personality."
Joining Annie for this performance will be Joe Davidian (piano), Pat Bergeson (guitar), Roger Spencer (bass), and Chris Brown (drums).
