The Intimate Mozart/ REBEL Ensemble
REBEL performs a beautiful program of small-scale chamber works by Mozart for various combinations of strings and fortepiano, in the historic and acoustically-excellent Bedford Presbyterian Church in the quaint town of Bedford, NY. Following the concert is a fully-catered reception to which all are invited to eat, drink and mingle with the artists. The concert is part of the celebrated 'Musica Antiqua Nova' series, now in its fourteenth year.
REBEL (pronounced 'Re-BEL' and named after the French Baroque composer, Jean-Féry Rebel) is widely regarded as one of America's premier ensembles specializing in 17th- & 18th-century music on original instruments. The core formation of recorder/ flute, two violins, cello and harpsichord frequently engages additional strings, winds, theorbo and vocalists to accommodate its wide span of repertoire. Arguably the most aired American baroque ensemble on radio in the U.S. today, the ensemble has appeared often on MPR's St. Paul Sunday, MPR's Performance Today' and other nationally syndicated shows including Sunday Baroque and Harmonia. THE NEW YORK TIMES has praised REBEL for the 'earthiness and vitality of its readings....cleanly articulated and elegantly ornamented'; THE BOSTON GLOBE has pronounced REBEL 'a state of the art early music ensemble' and THE WASHINGTON POST has characterized REBEL's playing as 'fiery, alive and beautifully controlled. http://www.rebelbaroque.com
