AEG Oregon Chapter- December Meeting
Abstract:
Yellowstone National Park received an unprecedented amount of rainfall in June 2022, which led to wide-spread catastrophic flooding and damage to critical park infrastructure, including roads, bridges, water and wastewater systems, and power lines. This talk will provide an overview of the federal response to flood damage, as well as ongoing efforts to restore the Parks transportation system to pre-flood functionality.
Speaker Biographies:
Eric Lim: Eric is a Senior Geotechnical Engineer at the Western Federal Lands Highway Division of the FHWA. Eric has been with Western Federal Lands for the last 7 years after spending 15 years as a consulting geotechnical engineer in the Pacific Northwest. Eric graduated from Humboldt State University in 1999 and is a registered Professional Engineer in Washington and Oregon, and a registered Geotechnical Engineer in Oregon.
Orion George: Orion obtained a BSc (summa cum laude) from Humboldt State University in Geology (2006) and a Geology MSc from Western Washington University (2012) with 13 years of collective experience working as a geologist. He has worked with Barrick Gold Exploration in Alaska and Nevada supporting grassroots and developmental exploration, as an engineering geologist with the Washington State Department of Natural Resources doing slope stability assessments supporting their timber sale program, and most recently as an engineering geologist with the Federal Highway Administrations Western Federal Lands Highway Division of the FHWA supporting projects in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Alaska.
Ryan Cole: Ryan began his federal career in 2000 with the US Army, serving in the Special Operations Command as a Ranger in 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. Upon completion of four tours in Afghanistan and one tour in Iraq he worked for the US Geological Survey beginning in 2008, while attending Portland State University, earning both a BS/MS in geology. He transferred to the US Forest Service in 2011, where he worked in mining, CERCLA, Burned Area Emergency Response, and engineering geology. In 2021 he accepted a position with the Western Federal Lands Highway Division of the FHWA supporting projects in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Alaska.
