OzCon 2023
Join us for three days of Ozzy fun and programming at the 59th Annual OzCon International! The wait is over were back to a full three-day schedule of events at the beautiful Kellogg West Conference Center on the Cal-Poly campus in Pomona. Near three major airports (Ontario, John Wayne, and LAX) and seated atop a wooded hill with lovely views, this site can feel almost like Oz itself!
Our 2023 theme is Oz in Animation. For almost as long as Oz has been adapted for the big screen, it has also been adapted for animation in various forms. This year, we will be exploring how animators in the last century have depicted Oz, from cel animation to CGI. As well as animation, we will also be celebrating the centennial anniversary of Ruth Plumly Thompsons 1923 book, The Cowardly Lion of Oz, featuring unique characters such as Notta Bit More and Bob Up.
Leading our line of guest speakers is Brad Birch, a screenwriter from childrens shows including PJ Masks, Johnny Test, and Boomerangs Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz. As one of the latest animated Oz shows, Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz tied in elements of both the MGM movie and the book series and introduced a new generation to Oz. More star-studded guest speakers we have lined up so far so far include Oz scholar Dina Massachi serving up one of her signature talks on Baum and the evolution of Oz in pop culture, and Winkie Convention co-founder (1964) and Oz bibliographer Peter Hanff. Watch for further updates on guest speakers by following us on OzCons social media pages.
