For Boys Only: The Joys and Challenges of Growing Up
** This is a two-part class, in BEND, OREGON, on April 11, 6:30-8:30 PM and April 12, 10 AM-Noon.**
For over 20 years, Great Conversations has offered classes to preteens, teens and their families on puberty, sexuality, communication, decision-making and other important topics surrounding adolescents. Now offered for the first time ever in BEND, OREGON (after a very successful run of the companion girls' class last fall) thanks to Central Oregon Pediatric Associates as our sponsor! We believe that parents are their children's prime sexuality resource and that sometimes families need and appreciate additional resources to initiate and maintain these important conversations about growing up.
Our down-to-earth approach combined with humor and clear factual information provided by health care experts is focused on preteen and teen developmental space while honoring and respecting family's traditions and beliefs. We currently offer our classes in Seattle, Bellevue, Federal Way, Bainbridge, Tacoma, and Everett, Washington; in Palo Alto, California and Missoula, MT; and we are delighted to now bring the class to central Oregon.
First Class Outline: *Puberty changes (how they happen; how one can be different and normal; variations of onset, duraction, and changes; influences on puberty; body - height and weight growth, hair, skin, muscles, reproductive system) *Common Concerns of Puberty (body odor; acne; wet dreams; masturbation; building muscles; circumcision) *Myths Related to Growing Up
Second Class Outline: *How girls are different and the same *Sexual intercourse and sexuality *Reproduction and childbirth *Feelings, actions, consequences how we make decisions *How to discuss challenging subjects with your son/parent *Finding trusted resources to answer questions on growing up A great deal of time is allowed for questions to be asked on any topic on the minds of the boys or the parents, so classes will often deal with the subjects of contraception, sexually transmitted diseases, issues of masculinity, sexual identity, relationships, and many others. The instructors deal with each topic in the context of the pre-teens' development.
Classes are for preteens and a parent or other trusted adult. If a family wishes to bring an additional same-gender child in the 10-12 age group, or an additional adult, please see FAQ's or contact us at info@greatconversations.com.
WAIT LIST: If registration is full and you wish to be on a wait list in case of cancellations, please contact us at info@greatconversations.com. We will notify you as soon as a cancellation opens up a space.
Cancellation policy is detailed on the confirmation you'll receive at completion of sale.
