LULA WASHINGTON DANCE THEATRE 2022 KWANZAA CELEBRATION
Lula Washington Dance Theatre 2022 Kwanzaa Celebration. Each night see new modern/contemporary works choreographed by Lula Washington, Tamica Washington-Miller and selected guests. Revel in the power and the beauty of Traditional African dance, fused with Modern dance, Classical Ballet, and Street Dance. With Lula Washingtons acclaimed Harambe Suite! Feel the power of the drums with Futo Toro African Drum Ensemble, LWDT professional touring company, local students, community members and Special Guests. Let your soul be filled with hope and aspiration through the art of dance. No two nights are exactly the same! Dec. 29 NAACP National Bronze medalist for Piano, Veritus Miller and Octave Blue, a collective of young LA based students at Berklee College of Music, Boston. Dec. 30 we will highlight and celebrate our youth!
Kwanzaa is not a religious holiday. It is a cultural celebration for the African American community to acknowledge and reconnect to ancestral African/Caribbean/Indigenous roots and culture. It is a time to celebrate our children, our elders and our legacies. It is a time to think about our future and making our communities stronger. Our celebration through dance offers an opportunity to learn about Kwanzaa and to acknowledge its importance.
For 30+ years the Lula Washington Dance Theatre has produced its annual Kwanzaa Celebrations before live audiences. The performance has been highlighted on KCET's nationally televised Holiday Celebration filmed at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles CA; and on many local daytime TV shows over the years. This is engaging, uplifting and fun for the entire family.
It will be a night to remember and a great way to usher in the new year!
