Convergence Dance Theatre is pleased to announce our most exciting concert yet, ReFraction: Embodied Experiences, at the beautiful Lab Theatre at University of Hawaii Manoa. In our 20th year,we are proud to present another dynamic and innovative evening of local contemporary dance, featuring several new pieces and collaborations with local and national performing artists. This years theme, ReFraction: Embodied Experiences, exemplifies CDTs philosophy of working together to reflect the many experiences of our dancers and choreographers. The concert features new choreography by Jennifer Shannon Butler, Devon Izumigawa, Amy Bukarau, Dayna Chun, and Camille Monson, with guest artists Angela Sebastian and Terry Slaughter. ReFraction consists of seven unique dance works that reflect and in turn refract on the personal and universally shared human experiences. Each piece dives into a theme close to the choreographers personal experiences. The works reflect on personal and social challenges, obstacles, and the power of taking ownership of that which makes us unique. The dancers' intimate gestures and dynamic use of space emotionally and physically take the audience on a journey as the energy wave from each individual splits and refracts into the other. This concert was made possible by a generous Production Grant from the City and County of Honolulu and is not sponsored in any part by University of Hawaii.
Led by artistic directors Jennifer Shannon Butler and Camille Monson, CDT is a non-profit collaborative modern dance company sponsored by Collaborative Dance Foundation. CDT is known for their energetic and athletic dancing. For 20 years, CDT has created and performed emotionally charged choreography with humorous and often satirical looks at personal, social and political issues. Each CDT concert presents work from various choreographers joined by a concurrent theme, always representing the collaborative spirit that fuels CDTs passion for creating new work through process-oriented choreography.
