The Wheatland Chorale "Alleluia: A Celebration" Concert
The Wheatland Chorale is proud to announce our Spring, 2014 series, "Alleluia: A Celebration!" Artistic Director Eric Riley has created a stunning program which explores in music many facets of our lives as human beings from the profound to the mundane. The centerpiece is a collection of English folk songs. There may be no greater collection of wonderful tunes than the body of melodies we call English folk songs. John Rutter has artfully arranged eleven of these tunes in a collection called "The Sprig of Thyme." These songs celebrate love found, love lost, returning from war, growing up, working for a living, etc. Some will be very familiar, others may be heard for the first time, but all are quite wonderful. Various woodwinds and harp create a variety of textures added to the vocal parts.
We celebrate music and singing with Daniel Gawthrop's powerful "Sing a Mighty Song." We celebrate God's presence with the stunning "O Sacrum Convivium" by Vytautas Miskinis and the beautiful "Ave Verum" setting by Phillip Stopford. The dance is celebrated with "Balleti" by the Renaissance master Giovanni Gastoldi. Our celebration of nature includes the "Pictures from the Northwest" by Vijay Singh (not the PGA professional golfer!). Lively energy and fun come from Bob Chilcott's arrangement of "Buffalo Gals", and Eric Whitacre's "Alleluia" is ten minutes of sublime beauty.
Don't miss this very special concert event!
