One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Before it was adapted into an Oscar-winning movie, Ken Kesey's novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest was made into a Tony-winning stage play. Randle P. McMurphy thinks he's pulled a fast one by feigning insanity to get out of a prison sentence. But instead of resting up at the state mental hospital, McMurphy finds himself going toe-to-toe with Nurse Ratched, who dominates the ward with a violence that he can't fight with his fists. The ensuing battle of wills between nurse and patient lights up the stage in this adaptation by Dale Wasserman (Man of La Mancha).
