Join SF in SF, the American Bookbinders Museum, and Tachyon Publications as we present an evening of stylish science fiction, mystery, and the explanation of why every tool is a hammer!
Each author will read a selection from their work, followed by Q&A with the audience. Booksigning follows at the close of the event.

Books will be for sale courtesy of Bookshop West Portal. You are also welcome to bring books from home to sign.

ADAM SAVAGE has spent his life gathering skills that allow him to take what's in his brain and make it real. He's built everything from giant Buddhas and futuristic weapons to fine-art sculptures and dancing vegetables.
The son of a filmmaker/painter and a psychotherapist, Adams previous positions include projectionist, animator, graphic designer, carpenter, interior and stage designer, toy designer, welder, and scenic painter. Hes worked with literally every material and medium metal, paper, glass, plastic, rubber, foam, plaster, pneumatics, hydraulics, animatronics, neon, glassblowing, mold-making and injection molding to name just a few.
In 1993, Adam began concentrating his career on the special-effects industry, with more than 100 television commercials and a dozen feature films, including Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace and Episode II: Attack of the Clones, Galaxy Quest and the Matrix sequels.
In January, 2003, Adam and Jamie Hyneman began to produce and host MythBusters, which premiered on Discovery Channel. By March 2016, when the series ended, it encompassed 279 episodes, 1,015 myths, 2,950 experiments, eight Emmy nominations and 83 miles of duct tape. A few years later, Adam hosted and executive produced MythBusters Jr. as well as a solo series, Savage Builds, for Discovery Channel.
Today, Adam stars in and produces content for his YouTube channel, Tested.com, including Adam Savages One Day Builds, and behind-the-scenes deep dives into blockbuster films, including Alien Covenant, Mortal Engines and Blade Runner 2049. In addition, after a lifetime of hunting for the perfect gear bag, Adam launched Savage Industries and began manufacturing his own with MAFIA BAGS. Finally, in 2019, Adams first book, Every Tools a Hammer is a chronicle of my life as a maker. Its an exploration of making and of my own productive obsessions, but its also a permission slip of sorts from me to you. Permission to grab hold of the things youre interested in, that fascinate you, and to dive deeper into them to see where they lead you. Adam lives in the San Francisco Bay area with his wife and their amazing dog Maggie.

MARY ROBINETTE KOWAL is an American author and puppeteer. A puppeteer by trade after receiving a bachelor's degree in art education, she became an art director for science fiction magazines and by 2010 was also authoring her first full-length published novels. The majority of her work is characterized by science fiction themes, such as interplanetary travel; a common element present in many of her novels is historical or alternate history fantasy, such as in her Glamourist Histories and Lady Astronaut books.
Kowal has been active in the SF&F community, acting as secretary, vice president (2010), and later president (2019-2021) of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America. In response to frustration from the fanbase on several issues in advance of the 2018 WorldCon, the board named her Chair of Programming. She has since returned as a Chair for the 2021 WorldCon, which was delayed to mid-December 2021 on account of Covid-19.
Magazines such as Asimov's and Uncanny have published her stories across the years, since "Portrait of Ari" was picked up by Strange Horizons in 2006, which eventually resulted in an Astounding Award for Best New Writer. Tor Books has been the main avenue for her longer fiction, with both her novels and short fiction receiving praise, including four Hugo Awards and a Nebula Award. The Calculating Stars, perhaps her most decorated and recognizable work, won both the Hugo Award for Best Novel and the Nebula Award for Best Novel. Marys current novel, The Spare Man, blends her no-nonsense approach to life in space with her talent for creating glittering high society, in an entertaining and stylish SF mystery. She continues to write and puppeteer, in addition to voicing audio books, and lives in Nashville with her husband and cats.
