VARIETY WORKSHOPS FOR YOUR DELECTATION
VARIETY WORKSHOPS FOR YOUR DELECTATION Join us for a series of practical workshops, which will introduce the work of some wonderful local characters. We will learn some routines and explore performance techniques with a 21st century twist, having a lot of fun in the process. These workshops are suitable for people with little or no performance, dance or musical experience but may also introduce some useful new skills to the seasoned pro.
Sunday 2nd March 11.30am - 5.00pm Novelty Music Making Workshop Musical novelty acts have always been a mainstay of the variety and popular entertainment tradition - musical saws, bottle orchestras and Les Dawson's off-key piano routine, through to Stomp and the Lost and Found Orchestra. We will play with some simple musical elements that can turn a novice into a maestro and will investigate how music can provide structure for a comic number. Lead by Toby Park from Spymonkey
Sunday 9th March 11.30am - 5.00pm Eccentric Dancing Workshop Learn how to wiggle and waggle in the most ridiculous ways, taking inspiration from Music Hall veterans to hip performance artists. We will look at numbers and techniques of some of the greatest proponents of the genre such as Max Miller, Harry Champion and of course Wilson, Keppel and Betty with their famous sand dance. Lead by Ivan Fabrega and Paschale Straiton from Red Herring and The Ragroof Players.
Sunday 16th March 11.30am - 5.00pm Comic Patter and Working an Audience Workshop Brighton is synonymous with fun and frivolity and has boasted its fair share of comics, from Max Miller our very own Cheeky Chappy, through to Count Arthur Strong and Jo Neary. We will learn about joke structure, work through some fun exercises together to generate some good 'uns and explore how to sock it to 'em. . Lead by Ivan Fabrega and Paschale Straiton from Red Herring and The Ragroof Players.
