Village Books & Sustainable Connections Pesent author Vincent Stanley, The Responsible Company
Join Village Books and Sustainable Connections for a brown-bag business lunch at the Crystal Ballroom of the Leopold Retirement Residence with author and Patagonia's vice-president of marketing, Vincent Stanley. Tickets are $5. Bring your own lunch, or pre-purchase a boxed lunch from Book Fare Café.
In The Responsible Company, Yvon Chouinard, founder and owner of Patagonia, and Vincent Stanley, the company's long-time chief storyteller, draw on their 40 years' experience and knowledge of current efforts by other companies, to articulate the elements of responsible business for our time.
In this presentation, Stanley will recount how Patagonia, step by step and misstep, has made its work progressively more responsible, and now shares what it has learned with companies as large as Wal-Mart and as small as the corner microbrewery. He will describe some simple, crucial steps businesses can take to thrive in an uncertain economy while reducing their social and environmental harm. He argues the need for companies to: Reduce their environmental footprint (and its skyrocketing cost); Make legitimate products that last; Reclaim deep knowledge of their business and its supply chain to make the most of opportunities in the years to come; and Earn the trust (and business) they need by treating their workers, customers and communities fairly and with respect. Ample time will be allowed for questions and dialogue.
Vincent Stanley, Patagonia's acting vice-president of marketing, has been with the company on and off since its inception in 1973. For the past eight years he has focused on the intersection of the company's brand, sport, and environmental stories. He has helped initiate and produce the Footprint Chronicles, the company's interactive website that outlines the social and environmental impact of its products; the Common Threads Partnership; and Patagonia Books.
