The performance entitled The Depth of Black Arts 2014 is scheduled for performance Saturday, January 25, 2014 at AAACC Buriel Clay Theater @ 2:00p.m. in San Francisco, California. OUR MISSION The Collective is a multi-disciplinary arts organization striving to establish spaces in which artist present and preserve African-American cultural expressions, cultivate their craft, generate new and interpretive work, and share their stories by means of collaborative and experimental performances. We draw on imagination, investigation, exploration, creation and experience, as we simultaneously prepare the artist for their transition into the professional world. PROJECT SUMMARY This project; will be led by A.C.T. Resident Artist, co-founder of The Collective and recent CalArts alum (MFA '12) Tyrone Davis. The Depth of Black Arts 2014 is inspired by the Black Arts Movement of the 60's and 70's led by poet and playwright Amiri Baraka, which began in Harlem and migrated west to San Francisco, California. In honor of this movement, The Depth of Black Arts 2014 will feature interdisciplinary performances of poetry, dance, instrument & vocal music, and black inspired drama. The goals of this project are to: 1. Create an ongoing partnership with the CalArts School of Theatre and African American Shakespeare Company through The Collective. 2. Engage current students in professional theatre work and exposure to theatre professionals. 3. Build an interdisciplinary project with members of the institute and guest artists. The project will be documented through photo and video archival footage.
