IN THE STILL OF DECEMBER
Celebrating our 42nd season, the Santa Fe Womens Ensemble presents In the Still of December. Led by music director, Dr. Linda Raney, joined by violinist Carla Kountoupes and Ensemble pianist Bill Epstein, SFWE will share familiar carols from Austria, Germany, France, Ukraine and Wales, as well as new winter treasures like Christmas Snowflakes by Laura Hawley; Winter Awakening, arranged by Erica Phare-Bergh; Miles to Go Before I Sleep by Larry Nickel; and a toe-tapping Hodie Christus Natus Est by Kelly-Marie Murphy.
The highlight of the program will be the world premiere of A Christmas Telling of St. Bride of the Isles, this years lovely commission by award-winning music director, piano teacher, accompanist and composer Sarah Jaysmith. The text is by poet Raymond Raney, who based his poem for the pieces lyrics on the 1913 painting St. Bride by John Duncan.
