Pop-Up Adventure Play have teamed up with A Little Patch of Earth Preschool will be in Newhall, CA with Special Guest, Grant Lambie. They will be delivering two days of workshops and Pop-Up Adventure Playgrounds, and will be inspiring a community of adults to support child-directed play.
This workshop will be delivered on Day One (March 8), followed by a Pop-Up Adventure Playground which everyone is invited to:
WHAT WE TALK ABOUT WHEN WE TALK ABOUT PLAY This workshop discusses play's distinct qualities and benefits, drawing on UK-based playwork approaches and international applications. We make explicit connections between children's self-directed play and whole-child learning, health and development on both individual and community levels.
By tackling urgent issues such risk and liability, interactions with parents, access to nature and behavioural concerns, we help participants to apply playwork concepts and approaches to their own settings. Although addressing many topics included in the introductory session above, the content and depth are intended for professionals in diverse settings. We offer a uniquely engaging and informative approach to the subject - and we include time for participants to play!
This workshop includes: ~ What we mean when we say 'play' - exploring common ground ~ An invitation to play - followed by group reflection ~ Not 'unstructured', but 'self-structured' - what makes children's free play so special? ~ The power of 'yes' - tools for rethinking risk and challenge ~ Advocacy and explanation - encouraging meaningful engagement with parents ~ Taking play home - finding opportunities to effect immediate and long-term changes
This workshop is suitable for professionals who work with children.
