You see me ?
"You see me" is the captivating story of a black artist grappling with conflicting messages of identity, authenticity, and white-washed expectations. It is a journey of frustration, healing, and finding ones voice, told through a stunning display of contemporary dance, physical theater, comedy, and soul music.
How this work came about:
These past few years have been a time of reckoning for me as I have faced the realities of race-based trauma and discrimination in my life. Over time, I have internalized messages about what it means to be too black or not black enough. This work represents a renewed commitment to speak in my own voice and create the art I want to put into the world. This show is about black art becoming more expansive.
