ASCE Seattle Section Ports and Harbors Committee Monthly Dinner
Speaker: Brett Ozolin, PE, Senior Engineer, BergerABAM
Brett Ozolin is an engineer in the International Ports and Terminals department at BergerABAM. His work experience includes structural design, uplands development, construction support and feasibility studies for a variety of port projects, primarily in Vietnam and Central America. Brett is also a member of the BergerABAM dive team and has been involved in topside and underwater inspection of port facilities throughout the Pacific Northwest. He is an alumnus of the Civil Engineering department at the University of Washington where his graduate studies focused on rapid construction methods and materials for concrete pavement construction.
Topic: Automated Stacking Crane Operations -- Overview, Design Challenges, and Lessons Learned
Brett will provide an overview of Automated Stacking Crane (ASC) operations and describe the design efforts, operational considerations and construction management challenges associated with implementing new ASC operations in an existing large container terminal in Panama. Manzanillo International Terminal (MIT) is an existing terminal with annual throughput in excess of 2.5 million TEU's. The existing soils at the terminal are poor and the design efforts associated with placing new ASC infrastructure were vast. Brett will explain the various alternatives explored and the rationale behind the final decision to employ ASC technology at this site.
