IMAGINE: JOHN LENNON
With this film selection we seek to broaden an understanding of spirituality to one that is not tied to a particular practice or religious sect. What makes John Lennon significantly spiritual was his ability to put his beliefs into actions. Please join host Fred Craden in a lively interchange following the film. Legendary producers David Wolper and Andrew Solt transform a wealth of archival footage into an absorbing portrait of the professional and private John Lennon. Delving into Lennon's own collection of 240 hours of material, the filmmakers have assembled a complex and haunting work worthy of John's artistic legacy. The title of the documentary is, of course, taken from Lennon's idyllic ballad about a world free of hatred and discord. We get to see John in his own studio, recording songs that reflected the main principles of his fight for life, for peace, and for hope. An intimate peek into John Lennon's life, this film presents him to the audience in his beautiful simplicity and deeply human nature. (USA, 1988, 100min., DVD | Director: Andrew Solt)
