Science is Elementary: Lessons from starting a non-profit
Tzipor Ulman, PhD, is the founder and Executive Director of Science is Elementary, a non-profit whose mission is to inspire a passion for science in children by increasing knowledge and interest in science at the elementary school level.
Tzipor has grown Science is Elementary (SiE) from a 2 classroom pilot to a program that serves over 1500 students in the Bay Area and 150 students at new site in Buffalo, NY. She has recruited and trained over 400 scientists and engineers to serve as classroom facilitators and mentors to low-income youth. In 2014, SiE will offer a professional development in STEM to elementary school teachers in the Mountain View-Whisman school district.
Tzipor is the proud mother of 2 boys in whom she has instilled a curiosity about the world and the way things work. She holds a PhD in physical chemistry from Stanford University and a BSc in Chemistry from Case Western Reserve University.
