THIS IS THE ONE THING WE DIDN'T WANT TO HAPPEN PRESENT:
MADDS (GLA) PETER CAT (GLA, SOLO) THEO SAYERS (CAMBS) & a short set about love and trolleys by PETER CAT & FRASER MACCALLUM (MILNGAVIE)
Leftfield pop promoters THIS IS THE ONE THING WE DIDN'T WANT TO HAPPEN persist in their Sisyphean mission to bring the weirdest, wonkiest pop acts from across the country together and stick them in a room together just to see what happens. For this simply delectable instalment, we are joined by:
MADDS
Dreamy, punchy grunge-pop juggernaut led by prolific singer and songwriter Maddie Cassidy.
PETER CAT
A solo outing for Glasgow's suavest coat stand, who has recently discovered that everything looks better in velvet and sounds better in the minor seventh. Fresh off his EP 'The Magus', singles from which received steady airplay on BBC Scotland, 6Music and Amazing Radio, Peter Cat will be road-testing a selection of new material from forthcoming records in addition to some old favourites, ahead of a UK tour in October.
"Ten minutes ago I was laughing, five minutes ago I was crying...it's pulled together with great panache and sounds quite unlike anything else I can put my finger on right now" I Said Yeah
"A jaunty trip through the familiarly twinned emotions of admiration and envy...sung at such a speed and with hardly a pause for breath that's reminiscent of early Scott Walker" The Morning Star
"Irreverent and smart pop music in the mold of Neil Hannon, Jarvis Cocker, Luke Haines and a sprinkling of Scott Walker...Peter Cat casts a wry eye over the world, and is moved to make music to match" Scots Whay Hae!
THEO SAYERS
Whether waxing lyrical on the woes of a runny nose, setting angry emails to music or giving a poignant tribute to a long forgotten quarryman, Theo Sayers has been charming audiences with his off-beat, rollicking songs since 2018. Taking from a dizzyingly diverse array of influences (post-punk, indie, synth pop, disco), Sayers groove-heavy, cheerful sound rarely fails to set venues alight. His love of wordplay and distinctive vocal delivery has earned him comparisons with the likes of Ian Dury, David Byrne and The Streets. Living in his hometown of Cambridge, his self-released Ado Perma EP was followed by several acclaimed music videos. His debut album Ramen For Two is set for release Autumn 2022.
A SHORT SET ABOUT LOVE AND TROLLEYS BY PETER CAT & FRASER MACCALLUM
Songs from an upcoming collaboration from Glasgow's Peter Cat and Fraser MacCallum from the Kingdom of Milngavie. Gitanes smoulder in darkened rooms and the Seine is turbulent...there are mysteries beneath...let us guide you to them.
