What does it take to write the next "Hello World, It's Me Margaret"? In this class, award-winning Young Adult author Cecil Castellucci will show you. She'll share her tricks for using personal experiences to bring your characters, conflicts and settings to life with vivid detail. Through fun in-class writing exercises you'll mine your life's trials and tribulations for fertile ground to create intriguing stories for teens. By the end of the class, you will walk away with everything you need to hit that first page with verve and conviction. Soon others will be absorbed in the world of your creation. Angry journal entries not included.

About Cecil Castellucci: Cecil Castellucci is the author of books and graphic novels for young adults including Boy Proof, The Plain Janes, First Day on Earth. Her newest novel is The Year of the Beasts. Her picture book, Grandma's Gloves, won the California Book Award Gold Medal. She is the YA editor of the Los Angeles Review of Books and a two time Macdowell Fellow. She has performed at Mortified, and is featured in the documentary "Mortified Nation".
