Sea Of Glass GRAND OPENING Featuring Live Hip Hop with Rahman Jamaal, DJs Kirkout & Humblelianess, and Global Change Music band VansGuard
Many Tucsonans are expressing great excitement and appreciation that this magical property at 330 E. 7th St. has been enlivened and actualized into The Sea Of Glass Center For The Arts to serve our local community. The center is host to a live performance hall and cinema, Food For Ascension Café, Sacred Treasures store, and the CosmoArt Studio. The Sea Of Glass is hosting their Grand Opening on Friday, January 17 with a concert by hip hop artist Rahman Jamaal from San Francisco with Tucson's very own DJs Kirkout and Humblelianess spinning, and the 8-piece activist Global Change Music band, VansGuard. A special dinner and concert package for two is offered with the Food For Ascension Café next door, serving delicious and pure organic, local plant-based fare.
Rahman Jamaal is an emcee, educator, and 'actorvist' from San Francisco who has been paving his career path in the California underground scene since his debut starring as "Flip" in the 2003 Sundance feature film The Beat with Chino XL, Coolio, and Brian McKnight. Graduating from USC Film School in 2004 he is now a pioneer in integrating Hip Hop skills into the education system through his independent company Rap Force Academy. He is a performer for Rondavoux Records, Projekt SEER, and works for multiple non-profits including The Riekes Center for Human Enhancement, The Hip Hop Chess Federation, Performing Arts Workshop, and Hip Hop Congress. Rahman will also be giving a 2-hour How to Freestyle and Beatbox Workshop at The Sea of Glass on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 2:00PM. All ages welcome.
VansGuard is a unique 8-piece band of socially and environmentally-conscious, activist-musicians featuring the dynamic vocals of songwriters and identical twin sisters DeleVan & SanSkritA. These sisters write lyrics from the heart that speak out against injustice and inspire courage and a global consciousness. The band's bassist, Kaileen Fitzpatrick, says, "Our music rocks the boat while rocking out." VansGuard finished recording their first full-length CD False Empire last May and since then their activist song Syria has been getting national airplay and positive responses from around the world. Their music brings a radically unified vision of hope and destiny to a generation longing for connection and meaning.
Concert-goers are encouraged to come early to the Grand opening to enjoy tantalizing tastes from the Food For Ascension Café community-supporting, farm-to-table restaurant serving pure and sustainable, plant-based local fare; to browse eclectic clothing, jewelry and fine art from around the world at Sacred Treasures, a unique store with emphasis on the support of fair-trade practices and a global-giving consciousness; and to explore the CosmoArt Studio, a significant aspect of The Sea Of Glass' community mission to inspire and uplift individuals and families by offering educational classes for all ages in various art forms.
