The Seattle Angel Dinner Series starts its second year with our first dinner of 2014 (with a Special Bonus).
With the success of the first two angel dinners we did in 2013, we would like to invite you and your fellow tech investors to our first angel investor dinner of 2014 at the Velvet Underground Dining Experience (WWW.THEVUDE.COM) in South Lake Union on February 4, 2014. Mingling and networking start at 6PM and we will sit down for dinner at 7PM.

The premise is simple: a healthy and engaged angel/investor network is one of the keys to a healthy startup eco-system and so we thought it would be cool to bring together quality local angels (and a few other players in the tech sector) for a fun and engaging night of food, wine and conversation....aka, good ol' networking and idea sharing. Of course, given the timing, consider this our holiday soiree too.

We are limiting the numbers so we can keep it small enough for good conversations and also have a great sponsor (for the third time), Craig Sherman of Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich, and Rosati and (for the first time)Craig Kinzer of Kinzer Real Estate Services, who have kindly agreed to subsidize this event to keep the price to $50 (normally $135) for a 5 course, wine paired meal.

We are excited to announce Chef Bill Patterson of Orcas Island's Sazio di Notte restaurant will be our chef for the night. Chef Patterson's restaurant is renowned as a foodie destination for his attention to quality, fresh ingredients and authentic, rustic Italian Cuisine. Of course, there will be great wine and libations, including Hand of God Wines (www.handofgodwines.com)

This promises to be a memorable meal and night, so if you're interested, please let me know as soon as possible to hold a spot for you -- we look forward to having you be a part of what we hope will be a continuing series of angel/tech investor events as we continue to create a healthy venture ecosystem here in Seattle.  (If there are angels you think should be part of this, then please forward me their name/contact info.)

A VERY SPECIAL BONUS:

We are VERY lucky to have the opportunity for those interested to do a brief tour of our neighbors facility in south lake union, The Institute for Systems Biology.  The tour is great but to have Lee Hood personally conduct it is very special.  For those interested, pls meet promptly at 5:00 pm at their offices at 401 Terry Avenue North  for a 30 minute tour.  If you do not know about them, they are an amazing source of innovation and tech value creation.  More info below.
We need an accurate headcount so when signing up, please let me know if you will be joining us for this too. (We only have space for 10 on this tour)

About Institute for Systems Biology:
The Institute for Systems Biology is a nonprofit biomedical research organization based in Seattle, Washington. It was founded in 2000 by systems biologist Leroy Hood, immunologist Alan Aderem, and protein chemist Ruedi Aebersold. ISB was established on the belief that the conventional models for exploring and funding breakthrough science have not caught up with the real potential of what is possible today. ISB serves as the ultimate environment where scientific collaboration stretches across disciplines, where our researchers have the intellectual freedom to challenge the status quo, and where grand visions for breakthroughs in human health inspire a collective drive to achieve the seemingly impossible. Our core values ensure that we always keep our focus on the big ideas that have been and  will be commercialized to have the biggest impact on human health. To date, the Institute has launched 18 spin-out companies. Since 2000, ISB has grown to about 200 staffers, which includes 10 faculty members and laboratory groups.

About Dr. Leroy Hood:

Dr. Leroy Hood is the president of Institute for Systems Biology. He is a pioneer in the systems approach to biology and medicine. His research has focused on the study of molecular immunology, biotechnology and genomics. Dr. Hood's professional career began at Caltech, where he and his colleagues developed the DNA gene sequencer and synthesizer and the protein synthesizer and sequencer four instruments that paved the way for the successful mapping of the human genome. A pillar in the biotechnology field, Dr. Hood has played a role in founding 21 biotechnology companies, including Amgen, Applied Biosystems, and Darwin. He has received numerous awards including the 2011 National Medal of Science, the highest honor the President of the United States can award a citizen.
