7pm Dance workshops - Balkan and Indian dancing
8pm Performances by: ORKESTAR SLIVOVICA VANCITY BHANGRA DANCERS VIJAY INDIAN BRASS BAND LUCITERRA FUSION BELLYDANCE
Showcasing talents from India are the Vancity Bhangra dancers, one of Metro Vancouver's most popular dance troupes, and the Vijay Indian Brass Band, performing traditional Indian wedding music. To contrast these talents is the Balkan Brass band, Orkestar Slivovica, performing music in the Roma-trumpet-band tradition from Southern Serbia and Macedonia. And featuring Luciterra Fusion Bellydancers to perform their modern fusion dance style. Never before has Vancouver seen a foursome combine their awesome talents! This event promises wild energetic dancing and a beautiful atmosphere.
We are also honored to have 2 renowned dance instructors kick off the evening to get everyone in the spirit of the cross-cultural celebration. Nada Putnik of the Gradina Balkan Dancers will be teaching a few traditional community folk dances that can be performed throughout the evening. Deep Sahota of the Royal Academy of Bhangra will be teaching Indian dance moves, including Bhangra steps, as well as giving cultural teachings on the origins and meaning of Bhangra dance. Arrive on time to take part in these lessons! No experience necessary.
Hosted by Slivovica Productions and Transformation Projects. Enjoy the infamous bar and food selection, including trays of beautiful Indian sweets, spicy hot Chai tea, Bosnian savory pastries, signature Serbian sausages, and a full bar of quality wines and spirits as well as non-alcoholic drinks.
Take in the community celebration with your family and friends. This event is all-ages and some seating is available to those who come early.
These events are listed as wheelchair accessible. Entrance is at the front door on a ramp, and the show is on the same floor as the ramp, however, the washroom is not wheelchair accessible.
