Lavender Connection Essential Oil Extraction
Ever wonder how farmers extract lavender essential oil from the plants? Join the Olson Family at Lavender Connection family farm on Sunday, September 4th at 12:00pm to learn and watch the process of essential oil extraction, using steam distillation! The demonstration will take approximately 30 minutes, with plenty of time for questions. The class at noon will begin with firing up the still, so if you'd like to watch the lavender harvest for extraction and/or the still being packed with lavender, please plan to show up approximately 30 minutes early. After the demonstration, stroll the fields, bring a picnic, and enjoy the farm - they are open that day from 10am-5:30pm and you're welcome to stay as long as you like.
Limited to 20 participants. All ages are welcome, but due to the technical/science nature of the discussion, not recommended for children under 8. *Discussion will take place at the gazebo marked "Lavender Essential Oil" clearly visible from the parking lot - please plan to check in at the gazebo if you arrive early to watch the harvest. The class is outdoors, but visitors will be grouped close together, so masks are encouraged (and paper masks will be provided.)
About Lavender Connection: Lavender Connection is a small, family owned and operated lavender farm featuring approximately 2500 plants of more than 40 different varieties. If the class fills up, please note that the farm is open Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday until Labor Day - stop by any time this summer when they're open and you might catch them distilling! Even if the still isn't fired up, they're always out at the still sampling essential oil, so you're welcome to smell the varieties and ask questions about the process.
This event is in partnership with WSU Clallam County Extension. For more information or questions please contact Lisa Vaughn at lisa.vaughn@wsu.edu
