5th Spirit Rising Himat Fundraiser, Featuring Calysto Steelband, September 15, 2022 7:00 p.m. at the Ironwood Stage and Grill, 1229 9 Ave Se, Calgary, Alberta.
In addition to the expected calypso, latin and reggae rhythms, Calysto's repertoire includes country, folk, pop, jazz and should. Its members originate from many countries, including Canada, Trinidad, Barbados, Guyana, Greece and Britain. The band is based in Calgary.
Be ready to dance from your heart for a cause dedicated to fostering social and economic wellbeing for a very marginalized population in the South Punjab and Hunza regions of Pakistan. The new Khanewal project site in Pakistan has a population that is largely landless and works for exploitative landlords. With low literacy rates and high rates of health issues such as hepatitis, the population is unorganized to begin working collaboratively to transform their economic and social conditions. At the same time, initial work in the region has uncovered a reservoir of energy and determination just waiting for the right kind of support. Join us to make this happen,
