Goldray, NIFE & Two Skies
Have we got a line up for you!!!
First up we have the utterly wonderful Two Skies! The Sheffield 3 piece are a very firm favourite of ours, and their psych influenced rock sound, with Dan's voice soaring through (Dan was vocalist in Lyca Sleep, which when he left to be replaced by Nicky Smith, morphed into Exit Calm) and his beautiful guitar sounds creating a soundscape that will leave you captivated! With new song 'Stars' already out, this is a band you need to get along to early to see!
Next up is Goldray!
After an impromptu Christmas Day jam inspired Kenwyn House and Leah Rasmussen to start writing songs together, Goldray formed proper in May 2010, although it was another eight months before they found a name the right name.
House had previously seen huge success as the man behind Reef's riff-driven alt.rock that exploded across the nineties and noughties. Rasmussen was enjoying a career fronting hits for the likes of Hydrogen, Bedrock and Renaissance, but the pair's dynamic took them towards psychedelic rock: House's hooks complemented by Rasmussen's powerful but smooth Kate Bush-esque vocals.
Kula Shaker drummer Paul Winter-Hart an old Somerset knockabout of House's joined the band in September 2010, and Sinah Blohberger came in on bass in early 2011.
The band parted company with Winter-Hart late in 2011, and Faithless drummer Andy Treacey stepped in for a year-long stint with the sticks as recording continued.
Goldray's sound was almost fully-formed, one foot more than firmly planted in the psych rock tradition of the late-sixties and early-seventies
With solo commitments an increasing distraction, Sinah Blohberger departed the band in the summer of 2012, but was soon replaced when Drew McConnell of Babyshambles introduced House to The Resistors' four-string mainstay Geoff Laurens, who joined the band in September. Meantime, Don't Walk Away became Goldray's soft debut release, the online video giving a first taster for the increasing numbers searching out the band.
The palette now complete, Goldray embarked on painting the picture proper the album sessions continue in earnest and are nearing completion. Recorded at Metropolis, The Granary in Kent , and the band's home studio in London , the album is produced jointly by House, Rasmussen and co produced by Clive Martin the acclaimed knob-twiddler behind Reef's huge debut Replenish.
Recordings in the bag, multi-Brit Award winning producer Pedro Ferreira is now sprinkling his magic across the final mixes, with a mini album released in November last year and a full debut LP to follow in spring 2014.
Last up on the night are NIFE! Nife are a female-fronted 3 piece rock band, hailing from London via Austria and Bath. They describe themselves as "60s Psych meets Krautrock in a Classic Rock casing". They are Nicky (AKA Nife - lead singer and guitar), Howey (drums) and Scott (bass guitar).
Their music is a collage of moody undertones, affecting lyrics and distorted noisescapes. Visceral and honest, Nife oscillate between a 90s grunge-drenched wall of sound and the sparse simplicity of a lonely distorted electric guitar.
Citing Krautrock acts such as Faust, Can and Neu as influences, Nife also throw the classic 60s guitar sounds of Jimi Hendrix and Free into the pot, topping off with tinges of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Siouxsie Sioux and PJ Harvey for a hefty dose of free-spirited, loose-hipped glory. This is evident in their unstructured live performances where no two gigs are ever the same!
With a Goodsoul DJ set as well, this will be an absolute belter of a night!!
