Intro to Clown for actors
with Courtney Cunnigham Saturday & Sunday, January 25 & 26 11am-4pm
Pilot season is upon us! The time of year when actors from all over the country flock to LA to compete for an already limited number of roles. Let's be honest, the chances of booking are usually only a percentage - with so many facets to casting, once your audition is over, booking the job is really out of your control. What is in your control is making sure you bring you into the audition room 100% of the time. Using physical comedy games, in tandem with excercises based in the tradition of sacred clown, you will get to experience exactly what it is that sets you apart from the thousands of other clowns, or rather, actors out there.
This is not circus clown. There will be no juggling or balloon animals involved. And you will never be asked to "make us laugh". This class is about honesty in performance, whether we laugh or cry cannot be determined ahead of time.
C o u r t n e y C u n n i n g h a m is a professional actress/director/clown who earned a degree in classical acting from Richmond College, London, before attending Dell 'Arte International School of Physical Theatre. It was at Dell 'Arte where she first studied Richard Pochinko's Clown Through Mask with Sue Morrison. It changed her entire relationship to performance and she went on to create and tour her award-winning solo clown show (Poofy du Vey in "Burden of Poof"), as well as numerous other original physical comedy shows. She worked for many years as a professional actress in NYC before heading to LA, where she has been translating her clown work into performances in film and TV. She has taught workshops throughout the US and Sweden. In LA she has taught her intro to clown class at Lesly Kahn Acting Studio, where she also worked as a teaching assistant and acting coach.
