Cuentos De Peregrinacion -A Song Cycle Opera and March
Join us as we retell the heart wrenching and inspirational stories of Mexican Immigrants who have made the arduous journey from Mexico to the US. Composed by Hector Armienta and directed by El Teatro Campesino's Kinan Valdez, the cast includes opera singers, musicians, actors, and community members. Prior to the March 29th performance, there will be a march to commemorate the life of Cesar Chavez and recognize the contributions of all immigrants to this country. LENGTH OF PRESENTATION: 45 minutes approximately
As described by Hector Armienta, "This work is intended for the community and those that want to celebrate the contributions of all immigrants - including those within our own family". The song cycle opera is about an hour long and is comprised of five arias ( songs). The text is based on stories Armienta has collected from various sources.
This production will mark the world premiere. Excerpts of it will be performed at Guadalajara's majestic Degollado Theater in August 2014.
