Long Day's Journey Into Night
Eugene O'Neill gave this play to his wife on their wedding anniversary saying, "Dearest: I give you the original script of this play of old sorrow, written in tears and blood. . . I mean it as a tribute to your love and tenderness." Long Day's Journey into Night is O'Neill's brooding, beautifully melancholy autobiographical journey of his youth. The verbal poetry of this play, rich in the mellow tones poetic dysfunction, is the story of a family on a journey into their own disillusionment fraught with the demons of addiction, isolation, and the absence of grace.
