Kung Pao Kosher Comedy Presents... Comedy Returns to El Rio!
Now in its 5th year, this monthly (every 3rd Thursday of the month -- formerly every 2nd Monday) multicultural comedy show features an eclectic mix of Bay Area comedians and beyond.
This month you'll hear the comedy stylings of: Yayne Abeba, Jabari Davis, Nina G., Bobby Golden, and Lisa Geduldig.
Yayne Abeba is a native San Franciscan of Ethiopian descent. She recently starred in her own one-hour TV special "Africa Laughs with Yayne Abeba" on the Africa Channel, which broadcasts throughout the US, the UK, and the Caribbean. Yayne began studying acting at the Jean Shelton Actor's Lab in 1995 and was bitten by the comedy bug four years later at The Luggage Store. Realizing that there was no cure, she accepted her fate and has since been touted as one of San Francisco's up and coming comedians. Her style is fresh, innovative, cutting edge and just damn funny. She won The 2002 Russian River Comedy Competition and competed in several SF International Comedy Competitions as well as the Seattle Comedy Competition.
Jabari Davis has taken the San Francisco Comedy community by storm with humor that combines down and dirty street smarts with thought-provoking intellect. With a style that interweaves true-life failures backed by undeniable logic, his comedic dialogue transcends not only cultural barriers, but social classes as well. Jabari has performed in some of the nation's biggest comedy clubs including The Comedy Store (Hollywood, La Jolla), The Ice House Comedy Club (Pasadena), San Francisco and Sacramento Punchline, Cobb's Comedy Club, Carolines on Broadway (New York), and Gotham Comedy Club (New York). In 2010 he debuted his one-man solo performance piece "Felony Swagger with A Degree" in the San Francisco Theater Festival to rave reviews. He was invited back in 2011 to perform another solo performance piece, both of which were directed by W. Kamau Bell of FX's "Totally Biased." In 2011 and 2012, Jabari was selected to perform in at Comedy Day in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. He has also performed on Charlie Murphy's Acid Trip Tour and In the Cape Fear Comedy Festival 2013 in Wilmington, North Carolina. www.jabaridavis.com
Nina G is the world's only female stuttering stand up comedian. She is also a storyteller and educator and has presented to countless audiences. Nina brings her humor to help people confront and understand social justice issues such as disability, diversity, and equity. She has appeared on the Howard Stern news channel and is part of the Comedians with Disabilities Act. She is currently performing with "Comedians with Disabilities Act," a comedy tour made up entirely of performers with different disabilities.
Bobby Golden was born the youngest out of three Persians in Westlake Village, CA. He began performing stand up comedy at the age of 17 and has been unstoppable ever since. He has performed at all the major clubs in Los Angeles including The Comedy Store, Hollywood Improv, and Laugh Factory and has been featured in Palm Springs' Pulp Magazine and Santa Monica Magazine. Bobby was a semi-finalist in KTLA5's "Find Me a Comic" Contest and was voted Funniest Gay Comedian of May 2009 by the Celebration Theatre in West Hollywood.
Lisa Geduldig is a local comic and comedy producer who's the creator, producer, and MC of a variety of comedy shows including Kung Pao Kosher Comedy (which celebrated its 21st year this past December); Funny Girlz: A Smorgasbord of Women Comedians; The Color of Funny: A Multi-Cultural Comedy Show; and A Muslim, A Mormon, and A Jew Walk into A Bar: The Comedy of Religion.
