Death of the Dead (Festival Reading #4)
Written by Stephen Baltz Directed by Sophia Menconi
You can't live in the past. Over a decade into the zombie apocalypse, the living have returned and are out to reclaim the world for themselves. Alex, a zombie, has managed to escape into an abandoned house, pursued by the living who want her dead. She must find a way to survive and make it out of this in one piece. Through recollections of her life before her death, she will look for answers to get her through her current situation, including an answer to the most difficult question, what does she want to do with her life?
Due to Hollins University's Culture of Care protocols regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, all audience members will be required to show proof of full vaccination (either two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, or one dose of the Johnson & Johnson) and at least one booster AT THE DOOR to attend a performance. Everyone is also required to wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth at all times while in the theatre.
Each summer at the end of July, we present a three-day event showcasing readings of student work from the Playwright's Lab. These readings are minimally staged for the general public and close to a dozen theatre professionals as respondents from as far away as Los Angeles and from as close as right here in Roanoke. Many of the plays that first saw public viewing at our summer reading festival have gone on to be published and produced by major companies. Get acquainted with these plays, playwrights, actors and directors before they are famous! You'll also be helping to develop these new works by engaging in the conversation with our students, faculty, and guest artists.
